Wendy (ウェンディ, Wendy) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Dream. She is the first anime character to be represented in Smash. She was confirmed on December 2nd, 2015. Her respective voice actresses, Satomi Satō and Brittney Karbowski, reprise their roles as Wendy.
Attributes[edit | edit source]
Wendy, as a Dragon Slayer, is very powerful. She can use weak attacks in her standard moveset, and finish it off with one of her more powerful special moves. Her moveset is mostly original to Smash, but some attacks are based on her Sky Dragon Slayer Magic from Fairy Tail.
In terms of stats, Wendy is a somewhat fast character, with great ground and air speed; however, she has a surprisingly high weight for a character her size (as a reference to her enhanced durability in Fairy Tail), making her attributes similar to Wario (small character that is hard to KO). In addition, due to her great air speed and the distance covered with her up special, her recovery is boosted even further. Overall, if used in the right hands, Wendy can be a powerful force that can quickly overpower the rest of the cast.

Taunts[edit | edit source]
- Up Taunt: Wendy puts her hand up to her mouth and giggles.
- Side Taunt: Wendy turns towards the screen, tilts her head, and winks.
- Down Taunt: Carla appears, and the two high five.
- Smash Taunt: If Wendy is in a team battle, using a smash taunt in any direction allows Wendy to cast Ile Arms, Ile Armor, and Ile Vernier, doubling the damage given, halving the damage taken, and doubling the speed stats (respectively) of anyone on Wendy's team (including herself) for a total of 60 seconds. This can only be used once per stock. Should Wendy have all her lives depleted before the 60 seconds are up, the effect goes away immediately. Wendy also can be interrupted, which results not only in no stat boosts, but it also uses up her chance until the next stock.
On-Screen Appearance[edit | edit source]
Carla flies in, and drops Wendy onto the field. Wendy waves as Carla takes off, then prepares for battle.
Idle Poses[edit | edit source]
- Wendy looks around, curious.
- Wendy fixes her hair.
Crowd cheer[edit | edit source]
Wen - dy!
Victory Poses[edit | edit source]
- Wendy celebrates by running around, before splatting on the ground; she then does an "anime sweat", while laughing.
- Wendy performs a Sky Dragon Roar, and then turns around and giggles.
- Wendy spins around, hugging Carla. Should the player be using the Natsu or Lucy alts, Wendy will instead hold Happy. Should the player be using the Gajeel or Levy alts, Wendy will instead hold Panther Lily.
Victory Fanfare[edit | edit source]
The song Triumphal Victory from Fairy Tail. Like Cloud and Inkling, the theme is continuous, replacing the results theme.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
Reveal trailer[edit | edit source]
The trailer begins with Wendy running into the Fairy Tail guild hall, with a letter in her hand that has a mysterious logo on the back. The guild members begin to question what it is, and Wendy opens the letter and begins to read.
"Dear Wendy Marvell,
Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the crossover fighting series known as Super Smash Bros.!"
After reading that, Wendy and the other guild members react with surprise, questioning why they chose her instead of someone like Natsu or Gajeel. Wendy then states that there's more, and continues.
"This series combines fighters from all across the universe, and you have been chosen amongst thousands of other suggestions. If you accept, you will automatically be transported to the world of Super Smash Bros.."
After concluding that this representation would prove useful for Fairy Tail's reputation, Natsu then asks Wendy if she accepts, and the Fairy Tail 2014 main theme starts playing. After some shots of the guild members smiling at her to persuade her decision, Wendy smiles, with a determined look on her face, and proudly states that she accepts. In sync with the music, Wendy's splash art comes up immediately after her response. Several scenes are shown with Wendy displaying her moveset, with the guild members commentating. After a while, Natsu notes how Wendy looks like she's in trouble, to which Lucy declares that she will help Wendy out. After showing off Lucy's Celestial Spirits, Wendy thanks Lucy, and then the trailer cuts to the Fairy Tail guild hall, and everyone in the guild is outside watching. Wendy notices the crowd, and a fight is then started. Wendy then points out the members from other guilds making an appearance, calling them by name. Wendy then states that she will fight to represent Fairy Tail, and the trailer ends.

Trophies[edit | edit source]
- Wendy
- The Sky Dragon Slayer, Wendy. She may be young, but she's a force to be reckoned with. Wendy used to be shy and weak, but thanks to her friends in Fairy Tail, she became the strong fighter she is today. In Smash, her standard attacks can be used to rack up damage quickly, and then one of her special moves can be used to finish it off. And her friend Carla is there to support her every step of the way!
- Wendy (Alt.)
- Wendy's side special, Sky Dragon Crushing Fang, is more powerful at her fingertips, so landing it while you're close is key. Her down special, Sky Dragon Claw, can be used to send airborne opponents crashing down. Finally, her up smash, Sky Dragon Tornado, releases a powerful tornado upwards, launching anyone who dares to touch it. And don't count on Wendy healing you if you're at high damage.
- Sky Dragon Roar
- Every dragon has its roar; this one just happens to be Wendy's. She gathers up air, and then releases it in a powerful gust that literally blows your opponents away. It is arguably Wendy's most powerful attack. I wonder who the dragon that appears in the background is...
- Fairy Tail (08/2006)

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Wendy is the second character to share a name with another character, the first being Roy.
- Coincidentally, both characters share a name with one of the Koopalings.
- Despite her default costume being based on her original appearance, her ability to fight didn't really come to until much later in the series, as, thanks to the Fairy Tail guild members, Wendy was able to open up and mature, and become more offensive.
- In addition, Wendy is generally regarded as the "healer" of Fairy Tail, of sorts, whereas in Smash, she doesn't show any healing capabilities at all.
- Despite Wendy's artwork being taken from the original Fairy Tail series, her appearance in SSBD is based on the animation change Fairy Tail received via Fairy Tail 2014.
- Wendy's customs becoming Fire Dragon and Iron Dragon variants are in reference to Natsu Dragneel and Gajeel Redfox, who, like Wendy, are Dragon Slayers (and use Fire and Iron, respectively).
- In addition, Happy and Panther Lily are the respective Exceeds of Natsu and Gajeel (with Carla being Wendy's Exceed).
- While characters in Fairy Tail have a limit to how much magic they can use over a period of time (with that amount constantly recharging over time), in SSBD, Wendy shows no such limit.
- Wendy's newcomer poster was drawn by Hiro Mashima himself, and references the banner for the Tenrou Island arc.
- Wendy's Japanese voice actress also voices female Corrin. This is referenced in Wendy's All-Star Congratulations screen, where Wendy looks at Corrin curiously.
- Wendy is the only anime character to be a starter.
