Prince Fluff is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Dream. He was confirmed as a newcomer by BeepYou on January 15th, 2016. He fights with the abilities he and Kirby used in Kirby's Epic Yarn, either for attacking or aesthetic purposes (like transforming into Submarine when swimming), while also using some of the moves used for Sword's, Whip's and Spear's copy ability, with the latter two first appearing in Kirby's Return to Dreamland.

He is voiced by Tomoko Nakamura, who reprises her role from Kirby's Epic Yarn.

How to unlock[edit | edit source]

  • Play 20 VS matches as Kirby.
  • Clear Classic Mode on intensity 7.0 or higher as Kirby.

Attributes[edit | edit source]

For a very light character, Prince Fluff has a very unusual blend of attributes, which give him proficient vertical mobility, but also give him an overall poor horizontal mobility: having among the poorest walking, air and falling speeds, and high gravity, making him vulnerable to being juggled and KO'd. While he has a small frame, decent dashing speed, the fourth highest jumps and the fastest air acceleration, they do not compensate entirely for his approach problems when not fighting on the ground, which encourages a defensive playstyle.

Despite his poor mobility, however, he boasts excellent damage racking capabilities: most of his moves have excellent, long and disjointed reach, mostly thanks to his yarn whip. This makes both his grounded and aerial games proficient at fighting, which also gives him a strong punish game. His sweetspotted attacks that make use of his whip also have very high hitlag (a total of x1.6), making him very hard to punish out of shield when these moves are spaced correctly, most notably his forward smash and back aerial. He also posseses a useful special moveset, with a great combo starter in his Off-Roader, an extendable recovery and both a projectile and a way to be almost invincible to projectiles while also giving him a way to use his opponent's to his benefit in his Yarn Ball, further cementing his punishing as well as his defensive game.

However, although he boasts excellent damage racking moves and slightly above average frame data overall, he has trouble getting a KO: his most powerful moves are either laggy, don't possess a lot of KO power, or are also part of his damage racking game. As well as possesing KO problems, he is vulnerable to being KO'd because of his overall predictable recovery, very light weight and slow falling speed. Nevertheless, he can still be a terror when used to his biggest potential, being a strong defender despite him being a lightweight, as well as being one of the most damaging lightweights in the game.

Moveset[edit | edit source]

Name Damage Description
Neutral attack 2% Cracks his yarn whip inside, then outside, then furiously cracks out his whip in front of him repeteadly. He then slaps his whip in front of him as a finisher. The infinite comes from the 100-Whip Lash from Whip's copy ability, and has a magic effect.
3%
0.5% each hit
3%
Forward tilt 7% (sourspot), 11% (sweetspot) The attack is the Spear Thrust from Spear's copy ability. PF creates a spear out of yarn and thrust it in front of him. Hugely disjointed hitbox, mainly used for spacing. Sweetspot is at the spear's tip, which has a slash effect and can KO at 160%.
Up tilt 2% (early), 6% (clean sourspot), 11% (clean sweetspot) The attack is the Skyward Thrust from Spear's copy ability. PF creates a spear out of yarn and thrusts it above him. Hugely disjointed hitbox. There are hitboxes at his sides during the startup that drag opponents into the main hitbox's sourspot. Sweetspot is at the spear's tip, which has a slash effect. An effective anti-air and has great KO potential when sweetspotted. Similar to Marth's up smash.
Down tilt 4% Same as Kirby's down tilt. PF kicks the opponent in an attempt to trip it. Pretty spammable.
Dash attack 10% (clean), 2% (subsequent late hits) While in car form, PF suddenly comes to a stop, crashing into the opponent. Clean hit has above average knockback, but later hits will land on the foe multiple times, dealing up to 8% damage and the last hit having decent knockback, making this move hard to punish if not SDIed.
Forward smash 14% (clean sourspot), 16% (clean sweetspot), 8% (late) Violently lashes out his whip in front of him. Similar in appearance to Zero Suit Samus' forward smash in Brawl, even having the same amount of startup and ending lag, as well as long range and the ability to hit opponents behind him. Sweetspot is at the whip's star, which has an electric effect and starts KOing at 115%.
Up smash 2.25% (hit 1), 1.25% (hits 2-8), 5% (hit 9) Same as Zero Suit Samus' up smash, PF shoots his whip up and spins it above him, trapping foes on it. Only the tip does knockback. There are hitboxes at his sides at the start of the move that drag opponents into the main hitbox. His strongest smash attack, KOing at 112%. Has a magic effect.
Down smash 14% (clean front), 12% (back), 8% (late front) Spins around, lashing his whip outwards in front of him while spinning. It can hit twice in front of him. Similar to Shulk's down smash, but it is quicker and only hits twice in front of him, with less range and power, making it one of the worst down smashes.
Neutral aerial 1% (hits 1-8), 2% (hit 9) Frontflips several times with his whip outstretched. Excellent out of shield option due to its range. Has a magic effect.
Forward aerial 10% (clean), 6% (late) The attack is the Chop and Thrust from Sword's copy ability. PF quickly pulls out a sword made of yarn, slashing the opponent. Tecnically a sex kick. As expected, it has a slash effect.
Back aerial 14% (tip), 9% (whip) Lashes his whip out behind him with a short delay, similar to Jigglypuff's back aerial. Sweetspot is at the star at the tip of the whip, which has an electric effect, but it is difficult to land the sweetspot due to the sourspot overlapping the sweetspot. Regardless, it is very powerful when sweetspotted, KOing reliably below 100% near the edge.
Up aerial 1.75% (hit 1), 0.75% (hits 2-8), 5% (hit 9) Same as his up smash, but in the air, and it has slightly less range and does less damage. It is his best KO move against floaty characters, and an overall useful move for juggling fast-fallers or heavyweights.
Down aerial Weight 14% (clean), 10% (late), 5% (landing) Transforms into the Weight form from Kirby's Epic Yarn. A very strong meteor smash on aerial foes when clean, though weaker when late. Its landing hitbox also makes it difficult to punish. Similar in function to Kirby's Stone.
Grab aerial 3% (early), 5% (clean) Fires his whip in front of him. Like other grab aerials, it has long range, very little landing lag, and can grapple onto edges. PF will transform into the Pendulum from Kirby's Epic Yarn while hanging for dear life.
Grab Flings his whip in front of him to grab the foe. Like other tether grabs, it has long range, but is punishable if missed. His throws are inspired by those from Whip's copy ability.
Pummel 3.2% Squeezes the grabbed foe. A slow pummel.
Forward throw Front Lash 7% (throw), 9% (collateral) Slams the foe in front of him. Similar to Samus' forward throw. High base knockback with low knockback scaling, but its ending lag makes it difficult to combo into an attack at higher percents. Bystanders hit by the thrown opponent are dealt slightly more damage but noticeably more knockback, and sent on the sakurai angle, being KOd at roughly 135%.
Back throw Back Lash 7% (throw), 9% (collateral) Same as forward throw, but he turns around to slam the opponent behind him, and the thrown opponent suffers slightly stronger knockback. Acts like forward throw when hitting bystanders.
Up throw High Lash 9% (throw), 9% (collateral) Flings the opponent above him. PF's strongest throw, it KOs at 150%. Bystanders hit by the thrown opponent are KO'd at 130%, and are sent on a semi-spike.
Down throw Triple Lash 4% (hits 1-2), 6% (throw), 7% (collateral, hits 1-2) 10% (collateral, throw) Slams the opponent in front of him three times. The most damaging throw in the game barring Lucario's up throw at max aura, dealing 14% when fresh. KOs at 160% near the edge. It is also his strongest throw when bystanders get hit by the thrown opponent, getting KO'd at 110%, while being sent at the same angle forward throw does. He is also intangible during the whole throw. It is PF's only throw to be different from the throw it is inspired from, Double Lash, as he slams the opponent three times instead of twice.
Floor attack (front) 7% Gets up and does a spin kick.
Floor attack (back) 7% Gets up, then kicks on one side, then the other.
Floor attack (trip) 5% Gets up then spins around kicking, similar to Captain Falcon's front floor attack.
Edge attack 7% Flips over the edge and flicks his whip in front of him. It has the longest range out of any edge attack, reaching about 1/5 of Final Destination.
Neutral special Default Bead Launcher 4%/6%/8% (normal/charged/fully charged, colored), 5%/7.5%/10% (normal/charged/fully charged, white), 8%/12%/16% (normal/charged/fully charged, star) Transforms into a cannon and fires a bead in an arc, sending opponents in a semi-spike. The color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white) or shape (star) are completely random (12.5% chance each of appearing), while its power, size and distance depend on how much is it charged, with an uncharged one having the size of a Fast Capsule and a fully charged one being as big as a medium-charged Shadow Ball. Has super armor just before firing. The star beads explode on contact with anything, making their blast radius bigger, and can KO at 90% when fully charged.
Custom 1 Star Launcher 6% (uncharged), 9% (charged) 12% (fully charged) Always fires a star, but fired stars are weaker. The attack has also more endlag.
Custom 2 Quick Launcher 3% (colored), 4% (white), 6% (star) Beads gain no power when charging and fired beads are weaker, but they are fired much faster, PF recovers faster from the attack, and fired beads cover slightly more distance. Useful for gimping.
Side special Default Off-Roader 4%+speed (collision), 1% (hits 1-7, braking), 2% (hit 8, braking) Functions like Bowser Jr's Clown Kart Dash, PF transforms into the Off-Roader, and speeds forward. Changing the direction will cause it to screech, which also deals damage. Spinning out in the air also produces more horizontal movement, which increases his recovery. It can be jump-cancelled, even right after hitting an opponent, which can lead into combos and mixups, as well as letting PF keep his midair jump if he has not used it yet.
Custom 1 Grounding Wheels 8%+speed The Off-Roader can bury grounded opponents when driving into them, but it travels slower, and screeching does no damage at all.
Custom 2 Testing Dummy 4% (collision), 1% (hits 1-7, braking), 2% (hit 8, braking) The Off-Roader travels faster, at a set distance, with the collision setting up for the screeching part, which has an electric effect. However, the move cannot be jump-cancelled.
Up special Default Angie 3% (hit 1), 7% (hit 2) Angie appears, who carries PF upwards a high distance, then drops him helpless. The move can be cancelled by pressing the attack or special button, at which point PF will spin twice with his whip outstretched. PF cannot use his midair jump after this, but he won't be helpless and can still recover with Off-Roader and jump-cancel it, or attack once again.
Custom 1 Blessed Ascension 0% PF is intangible, but the move deals no damage at all when cancelled.
Custom 2 Windy Angie 0% Instead of hitboxes, the move produces a windbox when cancelled. However, Angie travels slightly slower, making it cover negligibly less distance.
Down special Default Yarn Ball x1.25 (thrown balls) Using his whip, PF grabs any projectile or damaging item that comes in contact with his whip, then he draws his whip and transforms into a Top, rolling the projectile or item into a damaging yarn ball. He can then store it for later if the special button is pressed or fire it right away using the attack button. Inputting the move again with a yarn ball stored fires it automatically. Unlike Villager's Pocket, the move has its own knockback values. Enemies that touch the whip take no damage at all, but will get pushed up and back slightly, making the move useful for gimping.
Custom 1 Huge Ball x1.5 (thrown balls) Thrown yarn balls are slower, but have much more power.
Custom 2 Fastball x1.1 (thrown balls) Thrown yarn balls have less power, but travel much quicker.
Final Smash Tankbot 8% (contact), 16% (boxing glove), 12% (missiles), 10% (burying) Prince Fluff makes a circular patch appear. He then peels it out and reveals a Metamortex that transforms him into the Tankbot, which deals damage and minor, set knockback upon contact. He can then aim up or down to fire a huge boxing glove with the attack button that can KO starting at 85%, or fire yarn missiles in a somewhat-rapid succesion with the special button that cannot be reflected or absorbed, as well as KOing at 125%. He can also float for a short time (like the Landmaster, but lower), at which point any opponent gets meteor smashed with low, set knockback, or buried if the Tankbot lands right above them. The Tankbot lasts for 18 seconds.

Taunts[edit | edit source]

  • Up taunt: Transforms into the Strength and does a dance.
  • Side taunt: Takes out his whip and skips with it like a jump rope. It is based on one of Kirby's idle poses on Kirby's Epic Yarn.
  • Down taunt: Adjusts his crown, then scoffs as he finishes adjusting it.

Idle poses[edit | edit source]

  • Looks around him.
  • Stretches.

Crowd cheer[edit | edit source]

Prince - Fluff!

On-screen appearance[edit | edit source]

A curtain appears and opens itself, then Prince Fluff comes out of the curtain as it dissapears.

Victory Fanfare[edit | edit source]

A remix directly from Brawl. Originally debuting in Kirby's Dream Land, it is a remix of the short recurring theme that plays when Kirby completes a stage or defeats a boss. It is shared with Kirby and King Dedede.

Victory poses[edit | edit source]

  • Cheerfully jumps three times, then backflips twice and poses.
  • Rolls several times, then frontfilps twice and poses.
  • While transformed as a Top, he spins several times, then jumps twice, transforms back and poses with his whip at the screen.
    • All of his animations are variations of the Kirby Dance from Kirby's Epic Yarn, performed when he completes a level in that game.

Trophies[edit | edit source]

Prince Fluff
A young prince that hails from Patch Land, a parallel dimension to Dream Land. As expected from his yarn appearance, he is extremely light, however, don't think that you'll get an upper hand because of that, for as he posseses amazing range and very damaging moves overall! Whip yourself up, and fling your enemies off-screen with his Yarn Whip! Or better yet, grab their valuable projectiles and fire them back at them as yarn balls!
Wii: Kirby's Epic Yarn (09/2010)
Prince Fluff (Alt.)
Prince Fluff's down special, Yarn Ball, allows him to use his whip to pick up any throwable item or projectile and turn it into a yarn ball so he can throw it at his enemies right away, or keep it stored for later. Thrown yarn balls deal slightly more damage than the original object, but if the original was damaging enough, it may KO the opponent as well! His throws are special: they can damage bystanders that come in contact with the thrown enemy!

Tankbot
A Metamortex is a special patch that transforms the user into another form that gives it special powers. In this form, Prince Fluff can move along the battlefield while firing missiles or a mechanized boxing glove forward, with both of them having very high launching power! Its robotic-head appearance also makes it seem scary despite its yarn appearance! Overall a force to be reckoned with.
