Modes[edit | edit source]
Multiplayer[edit | edit source]
- Online Multiplayer is now split into three modes
- For Fun remains the same as before
- For Glory now uses the Competitively Viable Form of stages, as Omega form Stages are replaced with them.
Single Player[edit | edit source]
- Players are able to customize their default match conditions, instead of the game defaulting to two minute time matches.
Development[edit | edit source]
Development originally began as numerous side-projects for Super Smash Bros. 4 on the SmashWiki. Eventually, they were all combined in what was then referred to as Project Dream. On December 10, a mysterious warning sign and disclaimer were uploaded online. This teased at many features, including the return of the Trophy Gallery, the ability to make custom alternate costumes, and the Reckless Wiimote Guy.
Changes from SSB4[edit | edit source]
Gameplay changes[edit | edit source]
- Customs are much more unique than in Smash 4, and can sometimes affect a character's moveset outside of their specials.
- Classic Mode is split into three different modes, each with different names. Arena Mode functions the same as in Smash for Wii U, and Branching Classic Mode progresses the same way as Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. After beating both modes with the same character, True Classic Mode is unlocked. True Classic Mode functions similarly to the Classic mode in Melee and Brawl, with a single path succession.
Aesthetic and sound changes[edit | edit source]
- Some new alternate costumes have unique ending sequences
- All veterans have their costumes from past installments of Smash, with some newer characters receiving new models using the art style of past games.
- A new feature is the "Language" option: by default, the language a character speaks is the same language the system is set to (if applicable). However, with the new Language feature, players are able to choose the language certain characters speak.
