—Introduction Tagline

Haley appears as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Dream, representing the popular webcomic Order of the Stick by Rich Burlew. She was confirmed on February 19th, 2016 by DatNuttyKid as his first fighter since Project Dream's move.

Attributes[edit | edit source]

As a Rogue, Haley is a lightweight and speedy fighter with low defense. She fights with an adamantine dagger (or, depending on the costume, a knife or adamantine short sword) and a longbow, giving her good options in both melee and long-distance attacks. Additionally, her up special is easily controlled, giving her a good vertical and horizontal recovery, and her neutral special has a chance of freezing opponents from a distance.

Haley's Sneak Attacks are also incorporated into Smash in two different unique ways. Before taking her first hit of the stock, all of Haley's attacks do more damage. Additionally, in Team Matches, Haley will do more damage if her teammate is standing on the direct opposite side of the opponent she is attacking.

Like Mr._Game_and_Watch, Paper Mario, and Reckless Wiimote Guy, Haley is a flat character.

Moveset[edit | edit source]

Name Description
Neutral attack Haley kicks, then punches, then headbutts.
Forward tilt Haley stabs with her dagger.
Up tilt Haley performs a flip.
Down tilt Haley stabs in front of herself with her dagger while kicking behind herself.
Dash attack Haley performs a spinning leap while holding out her dagger.
Forward smash Haley fires an arrow from her bow. The longer the attack is charged, the further the arrow will go.
Up smash Haley tosses her dagger over her head, then catches it.
Down smash Haley leaps, then fires an arrow beneath her.
Neutral aerial Haley swings her dagger.
Forward aerial Haley performs a sex kick in front of herself.
Back aerial Haley fires an arrow behind herself, turning around in the process.
Up aerial Haley performs a midair flip.
Down aerial Haley fires an arrow beneath herself.
Grab Haley reaches out and grabs.
Pummel Haley hits the opponent with the handle of her dagger.
Forward throw Haley tosses the opponent and fires an arrow at them.
Back throw Haley flings the opponent behind her, then kicks them away.
Up throw Haley throws the opponent above herself and fires an arrow at them.
Down throw Haley leaps, tosses the opponent beneath herself, then lands on them dagger-first.
Floor attack (front) Haley stabs with her dagger as she stands up.
Floor attack (back) Haley stabs with her dagger as she stands up.
Floor attack (trip) Haley stabs with her dagger as she stands up.
Edge attack Haley swings her dagger as she climbs up.
Neutral special Default Icy Burst Haley fires an icy burst arrow, which has a chance of freezing opponents. The attack can be charged to increase damage and raise the chances of the opponents being frozen.
Custom 1 Critical Icy Burst The arrow always freezes opponents, but cannot be charged and has less range.
Custom 2 Distant Icy Burst The arrow flies further, but has a lower chance of freezing opponents.
Side special Default Multi-Shot Haley fires three arrows at once. Unlike her neutral special, it cannot be charged, but can be used without making Haley stop moving. It is especially effective in midair, as when used on the ground there is a good chance that the third, lower arrow will fly straight into the ground.
Custom 1 Aimed Multi-Shot By holding the button and tilting the control stick, Haley can aim the arrows up or down. However, they do less damage.
Custom 2 Multi-Shot Icy Burst The arrows have a chance of freezing opponents, but do not fly as far, deal less damage overall, and force Haley to stop moving.
Up special Default Wand of Fly Haley uses her Wand of Fly to allow herself to fly for a few seconds. While flying, she can move in any direction and use all of her aerial attacks. If she is attacked, she will start falling.
Custom 1 Celia Celia appears and carries Haley upward. Celia can be controlled, although less than Wand of Fly, and takes more hits to be knocked out of the sky. However, Haley cannot use any attacks while being carried.
Custom 2 Sabine Sabine appears and carries Haley upward. Sabine lasts the same amount of time as Wand of Fly and can be controlled just as long, as well as being completely unable to be knocked out of the sky. However, Haley cannot use any attacks while being carried, and takes constant damage from Sabine's touch. Sabine appears in a different outfit every time she is summoned.
Down special Default Boots of Speed Haley clicks her heels, activating her Boots of Speed. While they are in effect, which lasts until she takes a hit, she moves much quicker, about as quick as she would while wearing a Bunny Hood. They also speed her up while she is using her Wand of Fly (or Celia), but will not speed her up if she is wearing a Bunny Hood.
Custom 1 Speedy Dash Haley charges forward with her dagger after activating the Boots of Speed, and they are deactivated after a short distance. This does not give her a permanent speed boost, but does give her an additional attack.
Custom 2 Chase Scene Similar to Speedy Dash, but instead of Haley attacking with her dagger, she is chased by Golem-fied Crystal, who swings her knife as she runs.
Final Smash Random Encounter The camera zooms in on Haley, who turns around and looks shocked. It then zooms out to show a black dragon, which fights with Haley automatically (breathing acid at her while she returns fire with her longbow, both of which do damage to other fighters). At the end of the attack, the dragon takes one last hit and is killed, plummeting to the ground. It drags anyone it hits with it, and buries them if it lands on the ground, or KOing them if it falls past a blastline.

Taunts[edit | edit source]

  • Up taunt: Haley pulls out eight wands and holds them up as her eyes turn to stars, the background becomes yellow-and-orange striped around her, and the word "WANDS!" appears above her head. A reference to strip #970.
    • Bandana Version: Bandana looks at the longbow and a speech bubble appears over her head reading, "I don't even wield one of these!"
  • Side taunt: Haley holds up a gigantic diamond and a speech bubble appears over her head that reads, "Diamonds ARE a girl's best friend!" On rare occasions, the diamond is replaced with a piece of paper that reads "I.O. Me one big diamond". This is a censored version of the cast page of the comic, which showed her holding a diamond until the diamond was taken by Haley during the actual plot.
    • Bandana Version: A random woman appears next to Bandana, who kisses her as a rainbow appears over their head. A reference to the picture posted by Rich celebrating "Love Wins".
  • Down taunt: Haley looks around, then a speech bubble appears over her head that reads, "I think I'm supposed to taunt here, but I'm out of corny references."
    • Bandana Version: Identical to Haley's, but the bubble instead reads, "Am I supposed to break the fourth wall here, or...?"

On-screen appearance[edit | edit source]

Haley walks in wearing a dull brown cloak, before throwing it off, with a speech bubble reading "THE RESISTANCE! Wait, what?" appearing over her head. A reference to her first appearance in strip #511.

When using the Bandana costume, Bandana instead climbs down a rope and lands on the stage, followed by a mechanical whirring supposed to represent the Mechane being heard flying off.

Idle poses[edit | edit source]

  • Haley tries to tuck the loose strand of hair back.
  • Haley grins evilly while holding her knife.

Crowd cheer[edit | edit source]

Female voices cheer "SNEAK-A-TTACK! HALEY!"

Victory fanfare[edit | edit source]

A medieval theme played on a lute.

Victory poses[edit | edit source]

  • Haley pops out of a pile of treasure with a speech bubble over her head that reads, "Wheeee!!" A reference to strip #188.
  • Haley poses identically to the end of strip #120.
    • Bandana Version: Bandana looks around, then a speech bubble appears over her head that reads, "I don't HAVE a cool pose!"
  • Haley fires an arrow at two hobgoblins, then gives a thumbs up.
    • Bandana Version: Bandana stabs two hobgoblins, then gives a thumbs up.

Trophies[edit | edit source]

Haley Starshine
A rogue from Greysky City, Haley was raised by her father to trust no one except family. She eventually leaves her hometown and ends up in a tavern where she meets Roy Greenhilt, Durkon Thundershield, Vaarsuvius, Elan, and Belkar Bitterleaf, and the six of them form "The Order of the Stick". It's taken awhile for Haley to get used to trusting her teammates - about 393 strips, give or take - but she's an invaluable member of the team nonetheless.
