Palutena's Guidance (SSBD)
Palutena's Guidance returns in Super Smash Bros. Dream, however it is slightly different; now, if it's used, players have to wait a full minute to use it again, regardless of whether they were attacked while performing it or not.

Conversations[edit | edit source]
Ashley[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Who's this girl, Lady Palutena?
- Palutena: You'd better learn her name, because she's Ashley.
- Viridi: She knows the darkest spells, and she brews the meanest potions. ...Or so she says.
- Pit: Huh? What do you mean?
- Palutena: Her spells don't always work 100% of the time. But it seems she's mastered her spells for Smash Bros.
- Viridi: She can throw magic blasts at you for damage, and she can also bring a big cauldron from out of nowhere. The cauldron can turn you into a giant or a dwarf.
- Pit: I AM PIT, HERE ME ROAR!
NOTE: Palutena and Viridi's first lines reference the lyrics to Ashley's Song.
Black Cat[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Wow, she's a little cutie! I wish I could hold her.
- Viridi: That's Princess Shokora. She's- wait, what?
- Pit: And that gorgeous hair! Do you think she would mind if I stroked it?
- Viridi: I- I-
- Pit: What's wrong, Viridi?
- Palutena: Relax, Viridi. Pit's just referring to Princess Shokora's Black Cat form.
- Pit: Yeah! What did you think I was talking about?
- Viridi: ...
- Pit: Well, now that that's settled, do you have any battle tips for me?
- Palutena: Well, Princess Shokora has a lot of transformations that she uses to attack with.
- Viridi: Watch out for her Bugle, Apple Bomb, Blast Cannon, and Vizorman.
- Pit: What are those?
- Palutena: You'll see!
Bio Rex[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Whoa! Where are all these dinosaurs coming from?!
- Viridi: Probably something to do with the designers.
- Palutena: That's Bio Rex, the reptilian F-Zero pilot, number 15.
- Pit: Uh... he doesn't look much like a pilot. You sure he isn't like, another dinosaur warrior?
- Viridi: Bio Rex is faster than your average Tyrannosaurus. He has even got Boost Power! With it, he can launch you just by ramming into you, which allows for some nasty combos at his favor.
- Pit: That's NOT cretaceous! Are you also going to tell me he has a Dinosaur... Punch?
- Palutena: You're lucky he doesn't. But still, his claw attacks are nimble, sharp, and can give you quite a shock.
- Viridi: However, his most powerful attacks also cause some damage to him. Poor creature.
- Palutena: By the way, Pit... what would you do if, one of these days, all these dinosaurs joined forces to take you down?
- Pit: No way! Genghis Rex would devour me in no time!
- Viridi: Bullzeye would definitely be your toughest rival! ...Or maybe your best ally.
NOTES:
- Viridi's second line is a reference to the infamous phrase used in the F-Zero games when the player acquires the ability to boost after completing one lap, "You got boost power!", with Viridi saying the phrase in nearly the same tone used for it in F-Zero X.
- Pit commenting that Bio Rex's abilities are "NOT cretaceous" is a reference to the Extreme Dinosaurs using the word as their way of saying "Cool" or "Amazing", with Pit thinking the opposite as he considers them to be unfair or overpowered.
Bullzeye[edit | edit source]
Bullzeye is unique from other characters in that he gets a different Guidance conversation if Pit initiates it while one of his Extreme Dinosaurs is onstage: as such, Bullzeye has up to 5 different conversations.
Alone[edit | edit source]
- Pit: No way! This dreadful dinosaur has wings like me!
- Bullzeye: Hey, watch it out! At least I can fly!
- Palutena: That's Bullzeye, the aerial ace of the Extreme Dinosaurs. And he's right about that statement.
- Viridi: I've heard he can also glide like you did in a tripping past...
- Pit: Really? I don't remember...
- Palutena: Bullzeye is terrifying in midair. He's hard to catch up with, and can easily get in and smack you back and forth with his wings. He can also summon allies from the Extreme Dinosaurs team to aid him in battle.
- Viridi: I've also heard he loves to waste his time in a shopping net.
- Bullzeye: Hey, the shopping is worth it! Without the Immortalizer, I wouldn't be here!
- Pit: So, that means he can beat me up with a gang of dinosaurs?
- Palutena: Not really. Only one of them can be out at a time. And if you're careful, you can attack and knock them out.
- Viridi: If Bullzeye gathers a Smash Ball, however, it's a different story...
For T-Bone[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Come on, not another Tyrannosaurus Rex!
- T-Bone: T-Bone for you. I'm the leader of the Extreme Dinosaurs.
- Palutena: Well, he said it this time.
- Pit: Like everyone nowadays...
- T-Bone: Our purpose is to stop the wicked Raptors from warming up Earth. Environmental damage is detrimental for everyone.
- Viridi: Cool! He could be my perfect bodyguard! Just look at those muscles!
- Pit: Erm... are you okay, Viridi?
- Palutena: We already had this happen once...
- T-Bone: Bullzeye received an invitation via the shopping net to the "ultimate fighting championship". I figured out we'd have to aid him in battle. He's pretty frail on his own.
- Palutena: Well, let's say I also have to help Pit constantly.
- Pit: Hey! At least I can fight on my own!
- T-Bone: As for the fight, angel... When I'm nearby, it's better you use those wings to hang out in the air.
- Viridi: Yeah! I'll love to see that EXTREME Saurian Stomp of yours!
For Spike[edit | edit source]
- Spike: Hey lady, how's it spikin'?
- Pit: Sheesh, stop doing that!
- Palutena: Well... that's Spike, the martial arts master of the Extreme Dinosaurs.
- Pit: Exactly how extreme these guys claim to be?
- Viridi: *Laughs* You'll know that when his horns break right through those wings of yours.
- Spike: So, wanna hang out, madam? I have some angels to spike down to the bottom of this temple first.
- Pit: You WISH!
- Palutena: Actually, it's better you avoid close range combat with him if you don't want to experience that. He also has a Freeze Blaster, but you already know how to deal with that.
- Spike: Wanna try some salsa, madam? You'll love how spicy and spiky it is.
- Palutena: Uh... it's better you talk to that Pteranodon friend of yours, okay?
For Stegz[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Who is that spiky guy?
- Palutena: That's Stegz, pretty much the mastermind behind the Extreme Dinosaurs.
- Viridi: I've heard he can curl up and demolish foes with his spikes better than Sonic.
- Pit: Wait, so he's ripping off Sonic's combat style?
- Palutena: Well, in a fighting game where challengers come from different universes, you can't expect them all to know each other.
- Viridi: Plus, as a dinosaur, hasn't Stegz been able to do that since 65 million years ago?
- Pit: You're right... ugh! I don't like being outsmarted!
- Viridi: Then you should be thankful that Stegz hasn't said a word yet.
- Stegz: Hmm... the way you talk about us is surely interesting. Anyway, there's no time to waste. Let's get back to the match.
- Pit: Let's see what it'll be of Bullzeye when I take you down!
For Hard Rock[edit | edit source]
- Pit: This one doesn't look so extreme.
- Palutena: That's Hard Rock, a dinosaur coming from a parallel dimension.
- Viridi: He generally follows a more peaceful motif. Probably because his past wasn't as terrible.
- Pit: Doesn't that make him completely distinct from the other Extreme Dinosaurs?
- Palutena: Well, he has his fair share of differences with them. As an Ankylosaurus, his hide grants him immunity to knockback from any attack.
- Viridi: Hard Rock can easily absorb attacks for Bullzeye to sneak up right on your face.
- Pit: No way! How am I supposed to deal with that?
- Palutena: Hard Rock can't attack from afar, and his options at close range lack speed either. Use that as an advantage.
- Viridi: Above all, have a nice day!
- Pit: Erm... okay, I suppose?
NOTES:
- Pit's comment about Hard Rock "not looking so extreme" references how he wasn't originally a member of the Extreme Dinosaurs in the eponymous show, joining them in an episode where the Dinosaurs travel to the Earth in a parallel dimension with more peaceful inhabitants.
- Viridi's last quote references a phrase said often by the inhabitants of the aforementioned planet, including Hard Rock himself: "Have a nice day!".
- Hard Rock is the only Extreme Dinosaur to not react to the Guidance, due to his more peaceful nature.
CDI Link[edit | edit source]
- Palutena and Viridi: Oh no...not him...
- Pit: I'm missing some sort of context here.
- Viridi: That's CDI Link, an abomination and one of the reasons I despise humanity.
- Palutena: He's kind of like Link, except for one thing, he comes from a land known as Koridai, which may or may not be in Hyrule. I've never figured that out to be honest.
- Viridi: To be honest, there's not a lot known about this Link, as neither he nor Koridai has ever been mentioned anywhere in the Hyrule Historia. Not even Lorule has anything on it.
- Pit: So an unknown fighter, huh? I best be on my guard then.
- Palutena: Not exactly. I've heard he's not the best at fighting.
NOTES:
- Viridi's line about CDI Link not being mentioned anywhere in the Hyrule Historia is a reference to the Zelda CDI games being considered non-canon, and not an official part of the series.
- Palutena's line about him not being good at fighting is a reference to his joke character status, as well as the poor controls used in the CDI games.
Deadpool[edit | edit source]
English[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Lady Palutena, who's that?
- Deadpool: You're kidding, right? Everyone knows me! I'm Deadpool!
- Palutena: That's right Pit, this is Deadpool. He's...well...he's an odd one.
- Pit: How so?
- Deadpool: Well let me tell you, my good chap! The players need some exposition anyway...
- Pit: Um...what? Players?
- Deadpool: Shaddap and let me speak! I trained hard for this day to be in Smash, and by trained I mean I was part of an inhumane experiment.
- Pit: What happened after that?
- Deadpool: Awesomeness, that's what! I was born, and I have come to Smash to spread my love for chimichangas and shooting people to everyone!
- Palutena: ...See what I mean?
NOTES:
- Pit's confusion toward Deadpool when he refers to the players is in reference to the fact that in the comics, whenever he breaks the fourth wall, nobody seems to realize this and are just confused about what he's talking about.
- Deadpool says "Well let me tell you, my good chap!" in a British accent.
Japanese[edit | edit source]
- Pit: レディーPalutena、それは誰ですか? (Lady Palutena, who's that?)
- Deadpool: I...wait, what'd you say?
- Palutena: これはデッドプールです。彼はね...奇数1のビット。 (This is Deadpool. He's...a bit of an odd one.)
- Deadpool: Yo, hot stuff, I can't understand you.
- Pit: はい、彼は私は彼が言っているか理解することはできませんが、かなり奇妙に思えるん。 (Yes, he does seem pretty odd, though I can't understand what he's saying.)
- Deadpool: ...Do you guys understand what they're saying?
- Palutena: ピットしかし注意してください。デッドプールは非常に予測不可能な戦闘機として知られているので、あなたのガードアップを維持されています。 (Be careful though Pit. Deadpool is known as a highly unpredictable fighter, so keep your guard up.)
- Pit: とった。 (Got it.)
- Deadpool: GUYS. I CAN'T. UNDERSTAND. YOUR LANGUAGE!
NOTES:
- Deadpool asking "Do you guys understand what they're saying" is directed toward the players, and he looks at the players as he asks this.
Elsa[edit | edit source]
- Pit: NO WAY!
- Palutena: What is it, Pit?
- Pit: Is that who I think it is?!
- Viridi: Yup, that's Elsa alright.
- Palutena: She's very powerful, and has a lot of ice-based powers.
- Viridi: She can even create little creatures called Snowgies that assist her in the fight.
- Pit: I know this is important and all, but all I can think about is ♪ Let it go, let it go, can't hold it back anymore! ♪
- Pit, Palutena, and Viridi: ♪ I don't care what they're going to say! Let the storm rage ooooooooooooooooooon! ♪
- Palutena: Maybe we should get back to the battle now.
- Pit: Good idea.
Genghis Rex[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Who is THAT?
- Palutena: I have no data on this fighter. I can't believe it!
- Viridi: It must be an intruder from another dimension!
- Genghis Rex: Don't treat me like that, idiot-tops!
- Pit: He can TALK?!
- Palutena: And he doesn't seem very friendly.
- Genghis Rex: A goddess? ...Interesting. I can't say you're my target. As for you, winged wimp, take a shot of my Fossilizer and it's game over for you!
- Pit: Fossilizer?!
- Viridi: Well, if there wasn't something worse for you than being unable to fly, Pit!
- Pit: Will my Orbitars be able to reflect his shots, Lady Palutena?
- Palutena: Sorry, but you'll have to figure that out yourself this time.
- Genghis Rex: Don't tell me you're scared, weakling! Call me your Bossasaur! My roar will shatter any barriers you try to use to defend yourself! Hahahaha!
- Pit: I'll have to admit it... I'm scared.
- Palutena: Oh, just give it your best shot, Pit. And don't look at those... teeth.
NOTES:
- Genghis Rex's apparent pacifism towards Palutena reflects how he has somewhat of a weakness towards women in Dinosaucers, as he's in love with the only female member of the Dinosaucers, Teryx, whom he does not wish to hurt, and is often scolded by Princess Dei, his sister and the only female member of the Tyrannos, due to the constant failure of his plans, as well as her being far more experienced than him in general.
- The start of the Guidance being the same as for downloadable characters (which reveals that the Guidance's cast has no idea about the character) alludes to Dinosaucers' low fame, due to its status as a cartoon from the 80's with only one season of 65 episodes.
- Genghis Rex uses the phrase "idiot-tops" to insult the Guidance's cast, which is what he would often use in Dinosaucers to insult his compatriots when they commit mistakes.
Gurren Lagann[edit | edit source]
- Pit: WOAH! That thing is HUGE!
- Palutena: That giant mecha is Gurren Lagann. It's piloted by the legendary duo Simon and Kamina.
- Viridi: Actually, uh...Kamina was...uh...
- Palutena: ...Oh. Right. *ahem* Simon and Viral.
- Pit: How am I gonna take this thing down?!
- Viridi: You took down Hades, right?
- Pit: Yea...
- Viridi: Then this'll be easy! Just watch out for the Giga Drill Break and the Space-Time Shattering Burst Spinning Punch.
- Pit: Space-Time what now?
- Palutena: ...Good luck, Pit.
NOTE: Viridi's correction towards Palutena's statement is referring to how Kamina got killed in episode 8 of Gurren Lagann. The reason why Viridi doesn't finish her statement is, according to one of the game designers, "out of respect for Simon", as Kamina's death put Simon into a major depression.
Inkling[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Who's this, Lady Palutena?
- Palutena: That's an Inkling. They're-
- Agent 1: ¿ǝʇɐl ǝʍ ǝɹ∀
- Agent 2: Do I have to remind you how to hold it every time?
- Viridi: Um, who are you two?
- Agent 1: Agents 1 and 2! Members of the new Squidbeak Splatoon!
- Pit: Uhh... okay...
- Agent 2: We just thought we could give you some tips on how to battle Agent 3.
- Palutena: "Agent 3"?
- Agent 1: Right! That's the Inkling you're battling.
- Agent 2: He's/She's armed with a Splattershot, an Inkbrush, and a variety of ink bombs.
- Agent 1: And if you stand in his/her ink too long, you'll take a lot of damage.
- Agent 2: So stay focused, and you'll do fine!
- Pit: Thanks! ...I think.
- Agent 1: ¡ʇno Ɩ ʇuǝƃ∀ ¡ɯǝlqoɹd oN
- Agent 2: I give up...
Isabelle[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Hey, she looks familiar...
- Palutena: That's Isabelle, secretary of... what is the town's name again?
- Viridi: I think it's Smashville.
- Palutena: No, that seems too long.
- Pit: Wasn't she an Assist Trophy in the last battle?
- Palutena: That's right, Pit. But this time, she's joining the battle for real this time!
- Pit: What? Really?
- Viridi: Why so shocked? Remember, Little Mac did it last time.
- Pit: Well, but at least Little Mac could fight! All Isabelle did was throw fruit!
- Palutena: That may be true, but she has a number of weapons at her disposal.
- Viridi: Slingshots, shovels, axes, turnips...
- Pit: Sounds familiar...
- Palutena: That's not too surprising. Shared movesets are not uncommon in this battle.
- Pit: Fair enough.
NOTE: Palutena and Viridi's discussion about the name of the town Isabelle is from is a reference to the fact that the town name is chosen by the player. Palutena saying Smashville sounds too long is a reference to the fact that Smashville has more digits in it than can be entered in the Animal Crossing games.
Costumes[edit | edit source]
Isabelle's other costumes, which change her model, voice, and name, have a shared guidance like the Koopalings.
- Pit: Who's that, Lady Palutena?
- Palutena: That's (character name). They're an important part of the town of... What's its name again?
- Viridi: I think it's Smashville.
- Palutena: No, that seems too long.
- Pit: I've never seen them in battle before. They seem so cute! How could they battle me?
- Palutena: That may be true, but they have a number of weapons at their disposal.
- Viridi: Slingshots, shovels, axes, turnips...
- Pit: Sounds familiar...
- Palutena: That's not too surprising. Shared movesets are not uncommon in this battle.
- Pit: Fair enough.
NOTE: Palutena's line about the character being an important part of the town is not completely true if the costume being used is K.K. Slider, as he does not actually live in the town in any of the games except New Leaf, and in New Leaf he does not move in until Club LOL is designed. Lottie's is also a stretch, since she is not introduced until Happy Home Designer, which takes place in a different type of town and has no obvious connection to the other towns in Animal Crossing besides Nook's Homes.
Mr. AR[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Lady Palutena! This card just... came to life!
- Palutena: That's an AR Card, Pit. When they're scanned with the 3DS Camera, a small character will appear. This specific character is Mr. AR, the mascot of the AR Games.
- Pit: I don't see a 3DS Camera...
- Viridi: It's called video game logic, Pit. Not everything has to make sense. After all, where do you think Wario gets his bike from?
- Palutena: Or Peach gets her Toads.
- Viridi: Or Yoshi gets his eggs!
- Pit: Okay, okay, I get it.
NOTE: The specific phenomenon that Palutena and Viridi are referring to is known as hammerspace.
Pokémon Ranger[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Is that a Pokémon Trainer?
- Viridi: No, that is a Pokémon RANGER, Pit. They're much better.
- Palutena: Oh? What makes you think that, Viridi?
- Viridi: Well, they don't force Pokémon to fight each other! They protect Pokémon.
- Palutena: But they use their Capture Stylers to have the Pokémon fight to protect other Pokémon for them.
- Viridi: But they let them go afterwards.
- Pit: Okay, everyone gets it, there's a difference. Can you tell me about my opponent now?
- Palutena: The Ranger can summon different Pokémon to attack. Certain Pokémon are more powerful, while others may have better range or speed.
- Viridi: But which one appears is randomized.
- Pit: So how do I know which one is coming?
- Palutena: Just pay close attention. And if all fails, run away!
NOTE: Viridi claims that which Pokémon appears is randomized; however, it actually functions more like the Monado Arts. This is a leftover of an early version of the moves, which were randomized, but they were changed before his release.
Prince Fluff[edit | edit source]
- Pit: WHAT in the world... is this?!
- Adeleine: Hello Pit! You may not know me, but I'm Adeleine, a proud painting girl from the world Kirby lives on!
- Pit: And is this some kind of your creations gone to life?
- Adeleine: No, how can you think that? He's just Prince Fluff, a boy made out or yarn, that comes from a universe where everything is made of strings! And buttons! And patches!
- Adeleine: He's the prince of what he calls Patch Land! Well, I've said too much! Good-bye!
- Pit: So... if he is made out of yarn, he should be very easy to launch, right?
- Palutena: I guess so.
- Pit: Where have you been Lady Palutena? I was worried about you! I'm in need of help and then you're not here for me.
- Palutena: Oh! Now I can't even knit you a special sweater! Because you suddenly demand my help! *sob*
- Pit: ...em, I'm sorry. Really, a sweater? Thanks a lot. I should've been more grateful.
- Palutena: ...anyways, be cautious out there. Prince Fluff can suddenly grab your arrows, turn them into yarn balls, and throw them back at you!
- Palutena: His attacks also boast surplus range, all thanks to his whip, so keep your distance.
- Palutena: Please take care! I'm rooting for you! I want to see if the sweater fits you.
- Pit: Anything you do specially for me, it already fits me, Lady Palutena! I won't let you down!
NOTE: Pit at first wonders if Prince Fluff came to life as a result of Adeleine painting him. This is a reference to how Adeleine's creations can suddenly step out of the canvas and come to life at her will.
Ravio & Sheerow[edit | edit source]
- Pit: It's Nabbit!
- Viridi: That's not Nabbit, Pit. That's Ravio and his pet bird Sheerow.
- Pit: What's the difference?
- Viridi: Well, Nabbit steals items while Ravio sells them.
- Pit: So they work together?
- Viridi: No!
- Viridi: Well... Maybe.
- Viridi: But that's not the point! Ravio also lives in Lorule. It's an alternate version of Hyrule.
- Pit: Oh, I get it! LOW-rule!
- Viridi: Would you just listen? He's Link's Lorulean counterpart, so he has the Lorulean Triforce of Courage.
- Pit: He doesn't seem that brave.
- Viridi: He isn't. But he's still a force to be reckoned with.
Reckless Wiimote Guy[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Lady Palutena, does Mr. Game & Watch have a brother or a cousin or something?
- Palutena: I don't think so. Why?
- Pit: Because there's another flat guy!
- Viridi: That's Reckless Wiimote Guy, Pit.
- Pit: Who would name their kid that?!
- Palutena: Well, he doesn't really have a name. He's more of a... a safety warning.
- Pit: A safety warning?
- Viridi: Just watch out. He doesn't wear a wrist strap.
- Pit: Oh. OH!
Retro Mario[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Is that what I think it is?!
- Palutena: It sure is, Pit! Mario came all the way from the 1980s just to participate in Smash!
- Pit: Wow, this is even cooler than the ACTUAL Mario!
- Viridi: It is the actual Mario, Pit. The newer Mario is just a clone.
- Pit: What?
- Viridi: Everyone knows that 1-Up Mushrooms can't actually revive you. They just spawn a clone of Mario who takes over for him when he dies!
- Pit: What?!
- Palutena: Now, Viridi, don't spread conspiracy theories as if they're the truth.
- Viridi: It IS the truth! Why don't you just ask him?
- Pit: I don't think he can talk...
Sales Bunny[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Who is that?
- Palutena: I'm not sure. He doesn't look familiar.
- Sales Bunny: I'm the Sales Bunny!
- Pit: Whoa! You can hear us?
- Sales Bunny: Um, yeah! Can't everyone?
- Pit: Well, maybe. But they don't usually respond.
- Viridi: Pittoo did.
- Palutena: And so did Chrom.
- Pit: Good point. So why doesn't anyone else ever react?
- Sales Bunny: I don't know.
- Pit: I wasn't talking to YOU.
- Sales Bunny: Oh...
NOTES:
- Sales Bunny's dialogue appears from a speech bubble on his damage box, like the rest of his dialogue. He will not react to anything else until the Guidance is over.
- Ironically, despite claiming that no one ever reacts to their conversations, this game introduces several conversations where various characters do react, including Bullzeye, Genghis Rex, Wendy, and Twilight Sparkle's guidances.
Shadow[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Is that a…black Sonic?
- Palutena: That's Shadow. He uses a combination of guns, motorcycles, and Chaos attacks.
- Viridi: Guns? I’ve heard of people using guns, but never hedgehogs…
- Pit: So I can just reflect the shots back at him, right? This'll be easy!
- Palutena: Not so fast, Pit. Shadow can use Chaos Control to warp to any place at any time. He could just as easily warp right next to you to punish you.
- Viridi: But, then again, he couldn't.
- Pit: Got it…
NOTE: Palutena's information is technically incorrect; while Shadow can use Chaos Control to warp to any place at any time in the Sonic games, he cannot do so in Smash. Viridi then somewhat corrects Palutena by saying that he could be unable to.
Tohru Honda[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Who's this, Lady Palutena?
- Palutena: That's Tohru Honda. She lives with the Sohma family.
- Pit: ...That's it? There's nothing special about her?
- Viridi: Her? Nope, nothing particularly special.
- Palutena: Now, Viridi, if you look deep down within a person, there's always something special about them.
- Palutena: I find it helps if you compare it to plums on rice balls.
- Viridi: You have got to be kidding me...
- Pit: If there's nothing special about her, why is she in Smash?
- Palutena: Well, the two Sohma boys are very protective of her.
- Pit: Huh?
- Viridi: Yuki and Kyo Sohma. They're the rat and cat in the Chinese zodiac.
- Pit: ...Ooookay...
- Palutena: And they aren't the only Sohmas who have come to help Tohru. There's also Shigure the dog, Momiji the rabbit, and Hatsuharu the cow.
- Viridi: Not to mention Kagura the boar, Ayame the snake, Ritsu the monkey, and Hatori the dragon.
- Pit: What can they all do?
- Palutena: You'll see.
- Pit: WHAT?!
Notes: Palutena uses the rice ball metaphor incorrectly - it isn't about seeing the specialness in other people, it's about seeing it in yourself.
Twilight Sparkle[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Is that a unicorn?
- Viridi: Nope, it's an alicorn. Duh.
- Palutena: This is Twilight Sparkle. She's the Princess of Friendship.
- Pit: Geez, they'll let anyone join the battle these days, huh?
- Viridi: What's she gonna do to Pit? Hug him?
- Palutena: Don't underestimate this pony, Pit. She's defeated great evils with her friends many times over, saving the world from darkness, ponies' special talents...
- Pit: Well, where are these friends?
- Starlight: Why, hello there.
- Pit: Who are YOU?
- Starlight: I'm Starlight Glimmer, Twilight's former foe, but now her student and friend.
- Pit: Wait, if you can hijack our conversations, and you're Twilight's STUDENT...
- Palutena: Tread with caution, Pit.
- Starlight: As someone who's faced off with her before, I'd agree.
Wendy[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Why am I fighting a little girl...?
- Warren: Oh, you must be Pit. I've heard about you.
- Pit: Huh? Who are you?! And how are you able to contact me?!
- Warren: I'm Warren, from Fairy Tail. My magic allows me to contact others using telepathy.
- Pit: Oh, like Lady Palutena, right?
- Warren: I...guess?
- Warren: That aside, that’s Wendy, the Sky Dragon Slayer. She may be young and cute, but she’s very powerful.
- Pit: Huh? That little girl…slays dragons?!
- Warren: Dragon Slayer Magic is magic taught to humans by actual dragons. In Wendy's case, her dragon was Grandeeney, the Sky Dragon.
- Pit: That is so COOOOL!
- Warren: However, the magic actually isn’t powerful enough to slay a dragon…
- Warren: But regardless, Wendy should not be underestimated. Her Sky Dragon Crushing Fang and Sky Dragon Claw are very powerful techniques on their own, but her Final Smash is her most devastating attack: her Sky Dragon Roar.
- Pit: I’ll be sure to avoid that one…
NOTES:
- Warren's comment about Dragon Slayer Magic not being powerful enough to slay a dragon references how, in the Grand Magic Games arc of Fairy Tail, seven dragons were summoned in a portal from Eclipse, and the seven Dragon Slayers of the series came out to fight them; however, none of them were able to slay a dragon.
- Pit's surprise is similar to the initial reaction everyone gave when first seeing Wendy in the Oración Seis arc. Pit's statement after Warren explains Dragon Slayer Magic is also similar to the reaction the Fairy Tail guild gave when Wendy revealed her magic. Finally, Pit's statement itself is a reference to Jason, an eccentric reporter in Fairy Tail who often exclaims that things are "COOOOL!".
- This is the only Guidance where neither Palutena nor Viridi appear. Warren himself is, as he says, a user of telepathy magic, which allows him to communicate with others, explaining why/how he appears in the Guidance.
Yacker[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Hey, he's kinda cute!
- Palutena: That's Yacker. He's a Wisp from outer space.
- Pit: Lisp?
- Viridi: No, Wisp. With a "W".
- Pit: Yea...I'll just stick with "alien".
- Palutena: There are many different types of Wisps. Each has its own special ability. And many of them appear in Yacker's moveset.
- Viridi: The Red Burst can unleash a giant flame attack, but Yacker can also damage you while he's charging it.
- Pit: Don't you think that's a bit...overpowered?
- Palutena: Oh, come on, Pit, you've taken down multiple "overpowered" bosses before. Like the Great Reaper.
- Viridi: Yea, and plus, you're just fighting Yacker, it's not like you're fighting a giant Ferris wheel.
NOTES
- Pit's questioning of Yacker's species name is a reference to the same conversation between Sonic and Tails in Sonic Colors.
- Ironically, Sonic broke the fourth wall in Sonic Colors, but Pit does not in SSBD.
- Palutena's last line is an obvious reference to the Great Reaper, the boss of Chapter 4 in Kid Icarus Uprising.
- Viridi's last line, on the other hand, is in reference to the boss of Tropical Resort in Sonic Colors, Rotatatron.
Yang[edit | edit source]
- Palutena: Watch out Pit! You've got trouble in front of you!
- Pit: Huh? Why, Lady Palutena?
- Palutena: That's Yang Xiao Long, a student at Beacon Academy, training to be a huntress.
- Pit: She's a huntress? What does she hunt, exactly?
- Viridi: Creatures known as Grimm, but in this case, she'll be coming home with angel wings tonight.
- Pit: What's that supposed to mean?
- Palutena: Well, Yang may look sweet and innocent, but that's not the case at all.
- Viridi: That's right, there's a fire brewing within that girl. Remember Lucario's aura, Pit?
- Pit: Yeah?
- Viridi: Yang has a similar ability. The more damage she takes, the stronger she becomes. You'll be lucky if you make it out of this alive.
NOTES:
- Viridi's line, "there's a fire brewing within that girl", is in reference specifically to her theme song, "I Burn", but it's also a reference to how her aura works. When she uses more aura, her hair glows, as if on fire.
Youngster Joey[edit | edit source]
- Pit: Hi! I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!
- Palutena: Is the middle of a battle really the best time to be referencing memes, Pit?
- Pit: Sorry, Lady Palutena! Whenever I see a youngster, that's all I can think about.
- Viridi: That sentence would be a lot weirder if I didn't know we were talking about Pokémon.
- Palutena: Besides, that quote comes from Youngster Ben in Kanto. This is Youngster Joey, from Johto.
- Pit: He looks a lot like Ben.
- Viridi: But they're VERY different. Ben uses Rattata and Ekans, while Joey just uses Rattata.
- Pit: What? Why would he do that? Isn't Rattata, like, super weak or something?
- Palutena: Rattata are known for being one of the first Pokémon caught by new trainers, including youngsters like Joey. But Joey's Rattata is like no other. It's like his Rattata is in the top percentage of Rattata.
- Pit: Who's referencing memes now?
- Viridi: You'd think he'd at least evolve it into Raticate.
- Palutena: Speaking of evolving it, Pit, watch out for Rattata's Hyper Beam. It does a lot of damage, but it leaves him unable to move. So dodge quickly, and then strike back while you have the chance.
- Pit: Never FEAR!
NOTE: The guidance references the lines "Hi! I like shorts! They're easy and comfortable to wear!" from the Kanto games and Joey's own "It's like my Rattata is in the top percentage of Rattata!", which have reached memetic status. Pit's last quote refers to the F.E.A.R. technique, which stands for Focus Sash, Endeavor, Quick Attack, Rattata, or the more vulgar F***ing Evil Annoying Rodent.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Deadpool still speaks English even in the Japanese version, because Disaster Flare didn't want him to have a Japanese voice actor, so he created a Japanese version of the taunt to make it work.
