Super Smash Bros. Dream Wiki:Content Creation

Whenever I'm making a character page, I always ask myself three questions: 1. Can the character actually fight? 2. How do they recover? 3. What would their Final Smash be? Taking these into consideration, I do as much research as possible, and I make the moveset as accurate as possible.

Super Smash Bros. Dream is a fan project filled with creative ideas, and we welcome your ideas, but there are rules that must be followed, otherwise your article might be deleted. This page will help you with how to avoid that. If you have any questions or comments about any of these, please take it to the talk page.

Creating a character article[edit source]

Creating a character article is perhaps the most difficult and time-consuming article that could be created for the wiki. When creating a character article, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Has no one done this character yet?
  2. Has no one claimed this character yet?
  3. Does this character have a realizable moveset?
  4. Is this character an existing fictional character? It is highly advised that only fictional characters (that actually exist) are created, otherwise your article could be deleted immediately.
  5. Does the character fit well into the game? This can sort of apply to #3, but it's a bit different; if the character can manage to be realizable in the game itself while still fitting into the "impossible" category, then they can be in. A good example is Wendy; while she is not the main protagonist in her home series, she is shown to be a very capable fighter, and, as such, is allowed to be in the game.

If you have an idea that meets all of these requirements, but you don't have the time to work on them just yet and you're worried someone will do it before you, be sure to add them to the Character Claiming Center, alongside your name. Please note that if a character is already created or claimed, you CANNOT create the article yourself. It would also be preferred if you avoided editing completed character articles as well, unless it's your own or you spot a typo. If you create an article that was already claimed, your article will be deleted immediately.

Additionally, when making a character article, make sure it meets our quality standards. For reference, see here or here. A character article must contain:

  1. A character infobox containing character artwork, availability (starter or unlockable), universe, series symbol, and Final Smash. Should a character need a new series symbol, you should contact one of these two users.
  2. A section for attributes. Values (such as on Wes's page) are optional.
  3. A section for a moveset, with damage outputs, descriptions for each move, etc.
  4. An alternate costumes section, with a picture of the costumes.
  5. A trophy section with trophy descriptions for the character, an alt trophy of the character, and their Final Smash.
  6. Minor things like idle poses, taunts, victory poses, victory theme, reveal trailer, and crowd cheer.
  7. The {{SSBDCharacters}} template, and the character must be added to that template, as well as the newcomer table.

Trivia sections and additional details are optional, but the above are the requirements absolutely necessary. If that doesn't tell enough, here's a good example of what would NOT meet our quality standards:

"nacho libre is a cool character. he can use so many moves, including punching and kicking. his final smash is nacho and he does cool things with that."

An article like that is not acceptable, and depending on how low the quality, it may be deleted immediately. If there's quite a bit of content already, but not enough to meet our quality standards, a user may take it to the character's talk page and request for it to meet those standards. If enough time has passed and they've still done nothing about it, the article may be deleted. Additionally, just because a character article is complete does not mean you can't suggest changes. A good example of this is this character, as she has undergone numerous buffs and nerfs since her creation. If you think a buff, nerf, or change should be made to someone else's character article, instead of changing it yourself, it is advised that you take it to the character's talk page instead. If no response happens, contact the creator through their talk page.

If you are creating a character page for a veteran, you must:

  1. Be knowledgeable about the character. For example, someone knowledgeable about Zero Suit Samus should not make Lucario's page.
  2. Have in mind legitimate changes that could make them better or worse. If you just want to change a minor glitch with Pac-Man, then you should not make his page.
  3. Attempt to make them balanced. SSBD is attempting to make every character as balanced as possible, and as such, we keep a competitive viewpoint in mind when making veteran character pages. That said, it would be in your best interest not to nerf Ganondorf or buff Sheik, for example.

In addition, with the remaining veterans, they should NOT have a page just for the sake of a page. Until the page is made, we link to the SmashWiki via the {{SSB4}} template.

Creating a stage article[edit source]

When creating a stage article, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Has no one done this stage yet?
  2. Is a series symbol for this stage up yet?

If you'd like to create a stage, the stage must contain:

  1. A series symbol (if one's not already up, you can request for one uploaded or you can upload one yourself).
  2. An image of what the stage might look like.
  3. A stage infobox including the above requirements, availability, crate type, maximum number of players, music tracks, and what characters it's a home stage to, if any. Please note though that home stage characters has to make sense. For example, Ashley should not have a Street Fighter stage as a home stage.
  4. A section detailing the layout of the stage. Please try to make it descriptive.
  5. The {{SSBDStages}} template.

Like characters, a trivia section and additional details are optional, but the above requirements are necessary if you want your stage article to stay. Here's a good example of what would NOT meet our quality standards:

"My backyard is a stage with things happening on it."

Depending on how low the quality, an article like this may be deleted immediately. Like character articles, if there's quite a bit of content, but still doesn't meet our quality standards, a user may take it to the character's talk page and request for it to meet those standards. If enough time has passed and they've still done nothing about it, the article may be deleted.

Creating an assist trophy article[edit source]

When creating an assist trophy article, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Has no one done this assist trophy yet?
  2. Is the character you want as an assist trophy not already a fighter?
  3. Is the character you want as an assist trophy not already claimed?

Series symbols are only required if they're from an existing universe with a series representative (such as Mario). If your assist trophy meets these requirements, your article must contain:

  1. An infobox that includes artwork, a series symbol (see above), what universe they're from, what game they debuted in, their most recent non-Smash appearance, console of origin, species and gender (voice actors are only required if they have a voice).
  2. A description of what they do when summoned.
  3. Trophy information.
  4. The character's origin.
  5. The {{SSBDAssist Trophies}} template.

Any additional details are optional. Here's an example of what would NOT meet our quality standards:

"MY CAT WILL APPEAR AND MEOW AT EVERYONE"

Depending on how low the quality, an article like this may be deleted immediately. Like character and stage articles, if there's quite a bit of content, but still doesn't meet our quality standards, a user may take it to the character's talk page and request for it to meet those standards. If enough time has passed and they've still done nothing about it, the article may be deleted.
